Restylane® Questions
Why is Restylane different from other injectable fillers?
Many injectable fillers are derived from collagen. Restylane is a hyaluronic acid-based filler that provides long-lasting results. Hyaluronic acid is a substance that occurs naturally in the skin. Not only does the gel consistency of Restylane help fill in lines and wrinkles, the hyaluronic acid attracts moisture, keeping the treated area looking smooth for as long as six months. Restylane is particularly effective for medium to strong lines, especially those from the nose to the corners of the mouth, which are known as nasolabial folds. Restylane is also sometimes used to increase the fullness of or improve the shape of the lips.
What is Restylane-L?
Restylane-L is a form of Restylane that also contains lidocaine. This mild anesthetic helps make the Restylane injections less uncomfortable. Patients who have used Restylane-L have reported significantly less discomfort during injections as compared to regular Restylane. Patients with a proven allergy to lidocaine should not use Restylane-L.
What can I expect during a Restylane procedure?
The Restylane procedure is performed in the doctor’s office. He or she will determine where the injections should be administered based on your personal goals. Injections can be administered with or without anesthetic, but usually a local anesthetic is used. In the case of Restylane-L injections, a small amount of lidocaine is included in the injection. The injections can take a few minutes to as long as half an hour depending upon your personal treatment goals.
How long does it take to recover after Restylane injections?
There is no downtime after Restylane treatment. You can immediately return to everyday activities without need for rest or recuperation. You may experience some redness, bruising or swelling in the areas of the injections, but this will fade within two to three days. Full results of the Restylane treatment are visible within a week, and will last as long as six months.
